Registrars / OVHcloud

Track your OVHcloud domains.
nmspc reads your OVHcloud domains with a key that can only read, and reminds you before anything expires. It never changes them.

nmspc reads your OVHcloud domains through the OVHcloud API: when each one expires, whether it renews automatically, its transfer lock, status and nameservers, and the DNS records of zones hosted at OVHcloud. nmspc lists what it finds and you choose which domains to track; nothing is added by itself. On Free it syncs when you press Sync now, on Pro every day.

Connect OVHcloud

Steps

  1. Open OVHcloud's token page for your account's region (Europe below; Canada, Americas and Asia-Pacific: https://ca.api.ovh.com/createToken/) and sign in.
  2. Name the application nmspc, set Validity to Unlimited, and under Rights add only GET rules: GET /domain, GET /domain/* and GET /auth/currentCredential. nmspc refuses keys with any other method.
  3. A GET /domain/* rule also lets the key read transfer codes. nmspc never asks for them; list exact paths instead if you prefer.
  4. Press Create keys and paste the application key, application secret and consumer key here, and choose the region you made them in.

What nmspc reads

  • The domains in your OVHcloud account, and the DNS zones hosted there.
  • Each domain's expiry date, renewal mode, transfer lock, status and nameservers.
  • DNS records of zones hosted at OVHcloud, as one zone export per domain.

What nmspc never does

  • Renew, transfer, register or delete a domain.
  • Change DNS records, nameservers, contacts or auto-renew.
  • Buy anything or touch your payment details.

Can the key change your account?

nmspc checks that the OVHcloud key is read-only before storing it, and refuses one that can change your OVHcloud account.

If it doesn't connect

  • nmspc only stores OVHcloud keys whose rights are all GET, and checks them with GET /auth/currentCredential. Create a new key with only GET rules, including GET /auth/currentCredential, and paste it again.
  • OVHcloud didn't accept those keys. Paste all three from the same createToken page, check the region (eu, ca or us) is where you made them, and that the key is still valid and not expired.
  • OVHcloud refused to list domains with this key. Check its rights include GET /domain and GET /domain/* (with the leading slash), and that it was created in the same region you chose.

About OVHcloud

IANA registrar ID
433 (OVH sas)
RDAP base URL
https://rdap.ovh.com/
API sign-in
An application key, application secret and consumer key, made together on OVHcloud's token page. Each key carries rights: an HTTP method and a path, such as GET /domain/*.
API regions
Europe (eu.api.ovh.com), Canada (ca.api.ovh.com) and US (api.us.ovhcloud.com). Keys only work in the region they were made in. The US API has DNS zones but no domain registrations.

Moving a domain away from OVHcloud

  1. The domain must have been registered at least 60 days ago and not transferred or changed holder in the last 60 days.
  2. In the Control Panel, open Web Cloud › Domain names, choose the domain and on General information switch off Protection against domain name transfer. It switches back on by itself after seven days.
  3. Click AUTH/INFO next to the protection to see the transfer code, and give it to the new registrar. Some registries (for example AFNIC for .fr) hand out the code themselves.
  4. Start the transfer at the new registrar. It can take up to 10 days; if OVHcloud emails you about the outgoing transfer, confirming it speeds it up, and with no answer it usually completes after 5 days.

How do I create an OVHcloud API key for nmspc?

Open OVHcloud's token page for your account's region and sign in. Name the application, set the validity, and under Rights add GET /domain, GET /domain/* and GET /auth/currentCredential. Create keys gives you an application key, an application secret and a consumer key; paste all three into nmspc with the region.

Does nmspc store a key that can change my OVHcloud account?

nmspc checks that the OVHcloud key is read-only before storing it, and refuses one that can change your OVHcloud account.

Before storing the keys nmspc asks OVHcloud which rights the consumer key has, and refuses it if any right uses a method other than GET. The keys are stored encrypted.

A GET /domain/* right can also read a domain's transfer code. nmspc never asks for it, and a transfer still needs the transfer protection switched off, which a read-only key can't do.

Which region do I choose?

The one your OVHcloud account lives in: eu for Europe, ca for OVHcloud Canada (also used for the Americas and Asia-Pacific), us for OVHcloud US. Make the keys on that region's token page; a key from one region isn't accepted in another.

How do I turn auto-renew on or off at OVHcloud?

In the Control Panel open My offers and services, click the … button on the domain's row, choose Configure renewal and set it to Automatic or Manual. For several domains, tick them and use Actions › Enable or Disable automatic payment.

Automatic renewal needs a valid payment method. nmspc shows the new setting after its next sync.

Does OVHcloud send renewal reminders?

For .com and other generic endings, ICANN requires OVHcloud, like every accredited registrar, to email at least two reminders before a domain expires (about a month and about a week before) and one more within five days after, if it is neither renewed nor deleted.

OVHcloud says domains on manual renewal get several reminders before the expiry date, with a link to renew.

nmspc adds its own reminders 60, 30, 14, 7, 1 days before.

Why doesn't nmspc show DNS records for some of my OVHcloud domains?

nmspc reads records only for zones hosted at OVHcloud, and only when the key's rights include them (GET /domain/* does). Domains pointed at another DNS provider still get expiry and renewal mode from OVHcloud.

Does nmspc renew my OVHcloud domains?

No. nmspc never renews, transfers or changes a domain. It reads your OVHcloud domains and reminds you 60, 30, 14, 7, 1 days before each one expires, by push notification on any plan and by email on Pro. Renewing stays with OVHcloud.
