Track your Name.com domains.
nmspc reads your Name.com domains with an API token and reminds you before anything expires. It never changes them.
nmspc reads your Name.com domains through Name.com's Core API: when each one expires, whether auto-renew is on, its locks and nameservers, and the DNS records of domains on Name.com's nameservers. nmspc lists what it finds and you choose which domains to track; nothing is added by itself. On Free it syncs when you press Sync now, on Pro every day.
Connect Name.com
Steps
- In Name.com, open Account Settings › Security › API Tokens and press Create API Token. Accept the API Access Agreement.
- Name the token nmspc and press Generate new token. Copy the Production token, not the Development/Test one.
- If your account uses two-step verification, switch on Name.com API access at the bottom of Security Settings, or Name.com refuses the token. If it still refuses, Name.com's API overview says accounts with two-step verification aren't supported: turn it off for the account the token belongs to, or ask Name.com.
- Paste your Name.com username and the token below. nmspc only reads, and stores the token encrypted.
What nmspc reads
- The domains in your Name.com account.
- Each domain's expiry and registration dates, auto-renew setting, locks and nameservers.
- DNS records of domains that use Name.com's nameservers.
What nmspc never does
- Renew, transfer, register or delete a domain.
- Change DNS records, nameservers, contacts or auto-renew.
- Buy anything or touch your payment details.
Can the key change your account?
nmspc can't check what a Name.com key is allowed to do, so treat it as one that can change your Name.com account. nmspc only ever reads with it.
Before nmspc stores it, the workspace owner ticks “I allow nmspc to store a key that can change my Name.com account”.
If it doesn't connect
- Name.com refuses API calls for accounts with two-step verification until API access is allowed. In Name.com, open Settings › Security Settings, switch on Name.com API at the bottom of the page, and connect again. If it still refuses, Name.com's API overview says accounts with two-step verification aren't supported: turn it off for that account, or ask Name.com.
- Name.com didn't accept the username and token. Use your Name.com username (not your email unless that is your username) and a Production token from Account Settings › Security › API Tokens.
- Name.com refused to list domains. Check that the username and the Production token belong to the same account. If you whitelisted IP addresses for the API, Name.com refuses calls from anywhere else; remove the whitelist or use CSV import instead.

- The transfer should complete within 5 to 7 days, or sooner if you ask Name.com to expedite it.
How do I create a Name.com API token for nmspc?
Sign in, open Settings from the user menu and choose API Tokens under Security. Press Create API Token, accept the API Access Agreement, name the token and press Generate new token. Use the Production token at the top of the list, not the Development/Test one.
nmspc asks for your Name.com username and the token. Name.com notes that accounts created with Google or another single sign-on often have the email address as username.
Can the Name.com token change my account?
nmspc can't check what a Name.com key is allowed to do, so treat it as one that can change your Name.com account. nmspc only ever reads with it.
Name.com tokens have no permission levels nmspc could check, so the owner of the nmspc workspace ticks a box to allow storing it. The token is stored encrypted and only used for reading.
I use two-step verification. Why does Name.com refuse the token?
Name.com blocks the API for accounts with two-step verification until you allow it. Open Settings › Security Settings and switch on Name.com API at the bottom of the page. Two-step verification stays on for signing in to Name.com.
If Name.com still refuses the token, its API overview says accounts with two-step verification aren't supported: turn two-step verification off for that account, or ask Name.com.
How do I turn auto-renew on or off at Name.com?
Open the domain from My Domains and use the automatic renewal toggle under Quick Actions; it needs an active default payment profile. For several domains, tick them in My Domains and use Bulk Tools.
By default Name.com renews a month before the expiry date. nmspc shows the new setting after its next sync.
Does Name.com send renewal reminders?
For .com and other generic endings, ICANN requires Name.com, like every accredited registrar, to email at least two reminders before a domain expires (about a month and about a week before) and one more within five days after, if it is neither renewed nor deleted.
Name.com sends its notices to the registrant's email address, by default a month before expiry, and groups products that expire around the same time; the timing is under Settings › Email notifications.
nmspc adds its own reminders 60, 30, 14, 7, 1 days before.
Why doesn't nmspc show DNS records for some of my Name.com domains?
Name.com only manages DNS records for domains that use its default nameservers, so nmspc reads records only for those. Domains pointed at another DNS provider still get expiry and auto-renew from Name.com.
Does nmspc renew my Name.com domains?
No. nmspc never renews, transfers or changes a domain. It reads your Name.com domains and reminds you 60, 30, 14, 7, 1 days before each one expires, by push notification on any plan and by email on Pro. Renewing stays with Name.com.
