Track your NameSilo domains.
nmspc reads your NameSilo domains through NameSilo's API and reminds you before anything expires. It never changes them.

nmspc reads your NameSilo domains through NameSilo's API: when each one expires, whether auto-renew is on, whether it's locked, its nameservers, and the DNS records of domains on NameSilo's nameservers. nmspc lists what it finds and you choose which domains to track; nothing is added by itself. On Free it syncs when you press Sync now, on Pro every day.

Connect NameSilo

Steps

  1. Sign in to NameSilo and open API Manager.
  2. Generate a key and submit the form. NameSilo shows the key only once and can't show it again; a lost key can only be replaced by a new one.
  3. NameSilo's API can't tell nmspc what a key may do, so nmspc treats it as one that can change your whole account. It only ever reads with it (listDomains, getDomainInfo, dnsListRecords) and stores it encrypted.

Where to create the key at NameSilo ↗

What nmspc reads

  • The domains in your NameSilo account.
  • Each domain's expiry and registration dates, auto-renew setting, lock, status and nameservers.
  • DNS records of domains that use NameSilo's nameservers. nmspc only sends three operations: listDomains, getDomainInfo and dnsListRecords.

What nmspc never does

  • Renew, transfer, register or delete a domain.
  • Change DNS records, nameservers, contacts or auto-renew.
  • Buy anything or touch your payment details.

Can the key change your account?

nmspc can't check what a NameSilo key is allowed to do, so treat it as one that can change your NameSilo account. nmspc only ever reads with it.

Before nmspc stores it, the workspace owner ticks “I allow nmspc to store a key that can change my NameSilo account”.

If it doesn't connect

  • If the key is limited to some IP addresses in API Manager, NameSilo refuses calls from anywhere else. nmspc's Settings page for NameSilo shows the address to add, or leave the IP fields blank.
  • NameSilo's API isn't available to sub-accounts. Generate the key while signed in to the main NameSilo account.
  • NameSilo doesn't recognise that API key. Copy it again from API Manager; if it's lost, generate a new one there.

Moving a domain away from NameSilo

  1. The domain must be active or in its expired grace period, not pending deletion, and not registered or transferred in the last 60 days. You need access to the domain's administrative email address.
  2. In the Domain Manager, tick the domain, choose Unlock Domains from the action menu and submit.
  3. Click the domain name, find Authorization Code under Transfer & Lock and press Send Email. NameSilo sends the code to the domain's admin email address. For an expired domain, the code is in the CSV export from the Domain Manager.
  4. Start the transfer at the new registrar with the code, then approve it in NameSilo's Transfer Manager when asked.

How do I get a NameSilo API key?

Sign in to NameSilo and open the API Manager page. Generate a key and submit the form. NameSilo shows the key only once; if it's lost, the only option is to generate a new one.

The API isn't available to sub-accounts, so generate the key in the main account.

Can the NameSilo API key change my account?

nmspc can't check what a NameSilo key is allowed to do, so treat it as one that can change your NameSilo account. nmspc only ever reads with it.

So the owner of the nmspc workspace ticks a box to allow storing it. nmspc stores it encrypted and only sends three read operations with it. You can also limit the key to a few IP addresses in API Manager.

Does NameSilo renew domains automatically?

Only when auto-renew is on for the domain. On the first day of each month, NameSilo tries to renew the auto-renew domains that expire that month, paying from account funds, a stored card or PayPal, whichever you chose. If it can't, it emails you and you renew by hand in the Domain Manager.

Does NameSilo send renewal reminders?

NameSilo emails a monthly report of expiring domains and reminders 30 and 7 days before a domain expires.

For .com and other generic endings, ICANN requires NameSilo, like every accredited registrar, to email at least two reminders before a domain expires (about a month and about a week before) and one more within five days after, if it is neither renewed nor deleted.

nmspc adds its own reminders 60, 30, 14, 7, 1 days before.

What happens when a NameSilo domain expires?

For most endings: days 1–30 are a grace period where it can still be renewed at the normal price, and parking nameservers are put on from day 1. On day 31 it leaves your account for an auction. Without a winning bid it comes back for restoration, for a fee, until day 64; after that it can't be renewed and is deleted around day 70. Some endings, like .ca, follow other timelines.

How do I transfer a domain away from NameSilo?

Unlock the domain in the Domain Manager, ask for the authorization code under Transfer & Lock (it goes to the admin email address), start the transfer at the new registrar and approve it in NameSilo's Transfer Manager. It can't have been registered or transferred in the last 60 days.

Does nmspc renew my NameSilo domains?

No. nmspc never renews, transfers or changes a domain. It reads your NameSilo domains and reminds you 60, 30, 14, 7, 1 days before each one expires, by push notification on any plan and by email on Pro. Renewing stays with NameSilo.
