Track your IONOS domains.
nmspc reads your IONOS domains with an API key and reminds you before anything expires. It never changes them.
nmspc reads your IONOS domains through IONOS's Domains and DNS APIs: when each one expires, whether auto-renew is on, and the DNS records of zones on IONOS DNS. nmspc lists what it finds and you choose which domains to track; nothing is added by itself. On Free it syncs when you press Sync now, on Pro every day.
Connect IONOS
Steps
- Sign in to IONOS and sign up for the API feature on your account (IONOS calls it the API Programme). Without it, IONOS has no API keys for you.
- Open the API Keys page on developer.hosting.ionos.com, press Create New Key and name it nmspc.
- Copy both the public prefix and the secret. IONOS shows the secret only once.
- Paste them below. nmspc only reads (GET /v1/domainitems, GET /v1/zones) and stores the key encrypted.
What nmspc reads
- The domains on all contracts in your IONOS account.
- Each domain's expiry date and whether it renews automatically.
- Zones on IONOS DNS and their records. nmspc only sends four read requests: GET /v1/domainitems, GET /v1/domainitems/{id}, GET /v1/zones and GET /v1/zones/{id}.
What nmspc never does
- Renew, transfer, register or delete a domain.
- Change DNS records, nameservers, contacts or auto-renew.
- Buy anything or touch your payment details.
Can the key change your account?
nmspc can't check what an IONOS key is allowed to do, so treat it as one that can change your IONOS account. nmspc only ever reads with it.
Before nmspc stores it, the workspace owner ticks “I allow nmspc to store a key that can change my IONOS account”.
If it doesn't connect
- IONOS refused to list domains. Check that the API feature is active on the IONOS account the key belongs to, and that the key was made while signed in to that account.
- IONOS didn't accept the key. Paste the public prefix and the secret from the same key; if the secret is lost, create a new key on the API Keys page.
- IONOS allows 1,200 API calls an hour per key, and this key has used its share. nmspc tries again later.

Moving a domain away from IONOS
- For .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .mobi, .cc and .tv, the domain must have been registered in your name for at least 60 days.
- In the Domains section of the Renewal & Transfer page, select the domain and turn off Domain transfer lock.
- In the same section, select the domain and click Show Authorization Code. It can take a few minutes to appear. Give the code to the new provider.
How do I get an IONOS API key for nmspc?
Sign up for the API feature on your IONOS account first. Then open the API Keys page on developer.hosting.ionos.com, press Create New Key and give it a label. Copy both the public prefix and the secret: IONOS shows the secret only once.
Can the IONOS API key change my account?
nmspc can't check what an IONOS key is allowed to do, so treat it as one that can change your IONOS account. nmspc only ever reads with it.
IONOS's API keys have no permission levels nmspc could check, so the owner of the nmspc workspace ticks a box to allow storing it. The key is stored encrypted and only used for reading.
Does IONOS renew domains automatically?
Yes, by default. IONOS turns automatic renewal on when you register a domain and extends it by a year at the end of each term. If you turn automatic renewal off, the domain ends on its expiry date and is deleted from IONOS's systems on the cancellation date.
nmspc shows the setting after its next sync.
Does IONOS send renewal reminders?
For .com and other generic endings, ICANN requires IONOS, like every accredited registrar, to email at least two reminders before a domain expires (about a month and about a week before) and one more within five days after, if it is neither renewed nor deleted.
nmspc adds its own reminders 60, 30, 14, 7, 1 days before.
Why doesn't nmspc show DNS records for some of my IONOS domains?
nmspc reads records only for domains whose zone is on IONOS DNS and that use IONOS's nameservers. Domains pointed at another DNS provider still get expiry and auto-renew from IONOS.
Does nmspc renew my IONOS domains?
No. nmspc never renews, transfers or changes a domain. It reads your IONOS domains and reminds you 60, 30, 14, 7, 1 days before each one expires, by push notification on any plan and by email on Pro. Renewing stays with IONOS.
