Domain endings / .dk

A .dk is suspended the day it expires unpaid.
You have 30 days to pay with a restore fee; then it's deleted and goes to the waiting list.

There's no grace period with .dk. If the next period isn't paid by the expiry date, Punktum dk suspends the domain straight away, so the site and email stop. For 30 days you can still restore it by paying the fee plus a restore fee; after that it's deleted.

When does a .dk domain expire?

A .dk expires at the end of its one-year period, shown as the expiry date in Punktum dk's WHOIS. Renewing means paying the next period's fee, which you can do from two months before the date.

Is there a grace period for .dk?

No. An unpaid .dk is suspended on the expiry date and stops working at once. For 30 days you can restore it by paying the period fee plus a restore fee.

What happens when a .dk domain expires?

These are Punktum dk's steps when the period fee isn't paid.

SuspendedDays 0–30
The domain is disconnected from its name servers, so the website and email stop working. Paying the period fee plus a restore fee brings it back.
DeletedDay 30
Neither fee paid: Punktum dk deletes the domain.
Waiting list, then released14 days for the first in line
The first person on the waiting list, if any, gets 14 days to register it. Then it's first come, first served.

How long can you register a .dk domain for?

One year at a time, for registration and renewal.

How do I look up a .dk domain's expiry date?

Ask the registry's WHOIS server, whois.punktum.dk, or type the name in the box above and nmspc asks the same server for you. IANA's RDAP bootstrap file lists no RDAP server for .dk (checked 25 October 2026), so nmspc reads .dk from WHOIS, and switches to RDAP on its own if IANA adds one.

.dk has no RDAP server at all, so WHOIS is the only way to read it.

What else is different about .dk?

There's no quarantine after deletion. Instead Punktum dk keeps a waiting list for names that are taken.

Holders can still manage and pay for a .dk directly with Punktum dk until 30 June 2028; after that renewals go through a registrar.

Who runs .dk?

Punktum dk, formerly DK Hostmaster, runs .dk for Dansk Internet Forum. New .dk registrations go through a registrar from 1 July 2026.

How nmspc keeps track

Add a .dk domain and nmspc reads its expiry date from the registry, then reminds you 60, 30, 14, 7 and 1 day before it runs out, and before its certificate does. Free for every domain. Open nmspc
