Domain endings / .ai

A .ai expires on its expiry date.
The registry publishes the date, but not what happens after it. Your registrar's terms decide.

Since January 2025 .ai has run on Identity Digital's registry platform, and its RDAP and WHOIS records show each domain's expiry date. What happens after the expiry date isn't published for .ai specifically, so your registrar's terms are the ones to read.

When does a .ai domain expire?

A .ai expires on the expiry date in the registry record, at the end of the period you paid for. The date is public in the registry's RDAP and WHOIS records.

Is there a grace period for .ai?

Possibly, but the registry doesn't say. Neither nic.ai nor Identity Digital publishes grace or redemption periods for .ai, so ask your registrar, or better, renew before the date.

What happens when a .ai domain expires?

No .ai-specific timeline is published to copy here. Renew before the expiry date and you don't depend on one.

How do I look up a .ai domain's expiry date?

Ask the registry's RDAP server, https://rdap.identitydigital.services/rdap/, or type the name in the box above and nmspc asks the same server for you. IANA's RDAP bootstrap file lists that server for .ai; if it doesn't answer, nmspc falls back to WHOIS at whois.nic.ai.

Who runs .ai?

The Government of Anguilla manages .ai, Anguilla's country code. Identity Digital has run the registry on its platform since 15 January 2025. You register and renew a .ai through a registrar.

How nmspc keeps track

Add a .ai domain and nmspc reads its expiry date from the registry, then reminds you 60, 30, 14, 7 and 1 day before it runs out, and before its certificate does. Free for every domain. Open nmspc
